A blog about photography ::: Dedicated to
photos, photos and more photos ::: Kok-Leong

  • Question: Hi Kok Leong, my names Ed, I'm from a small company based in the UK. I know this is a little out of the blue, but we do excellent screen protectors for the Sony RX100 and other cameras (stay with me here!). I'd like to send you one to see what you think. They're seriously good, we actually guarantee against bubbles or scratches for the lifetime of your Sony. I'd hate to think you were using them without screen protection, there's no obligation either. You can reach me info[at]expertshielduk,com - Anonymous
  • Answer:

    sure! What is the name of your company or website URL?

Fantastic point-n-shoot (“pns”) camera. “Wow” is an understatement. Build quality is exceptional and the image quality really quite amazing for such a small camera. The sensor is very large for a camera this size (same sensor size as the Nikon V1). Images are 20 megapixel and in RAW too. Other impressive plus points:

  • shutter is virtually silent;
  • AF is very fast to me
  • MF is also very intuitive and easy to activate
  • buttons can be configured
  • video is EXCELLENT
  • built-in flash can act as a ‘bounce’ flash (just tilt the flash backwards with your fingers)
  • it’s truly a portable device - even charging is via the camera. At first I thought this would be a bad idea, but having been able to charge it with an external USB battery pack, I think it’s a great idea.

Unfortunately, Lightroom is not able to read the files just yet but an update is surely in the works.

Some reviews that I relied on

Here are some test images I took over the past week:

Cheers!

 สวัสดีครับ ::: “I thought you Thai” ::: Bangkok 2012

สวัสดีครับ (Sa-wat-dee kraup) ::: Pics from our short firm trip to incredibly hot & extremely spicy Bangkok ::: “I thought you Thai” said the waiter to me. Maybe that’s why he didn’t overcharged me. Had a great time meeting up with Ronnie Teo the Man (wow, who gets to retire at such a young age!!!). Thx Ronnie for the ton of tips on Bangkok, all kinds, even the risque (cos it’s always good to know where to avoid), the food and local ‘talat’ (market) suggestions were the best.

And aside from a brush in with a fan/stalker/conartist and monk who asked me “Is that M9? It’s 250,000 baht here”, Bangkok was a blast.

  1. Reid Review’s detailed reviews of the M Monochrome and X2 ::: time to get your subscription pronto ::: http://www.reidreviews.com/Reid’s reviews are SPECTACULAR - in them, he mentioned that for the M Monochrome, there are “really only two ways to see the ways in which  the MM renders tonality. The first is in a good print. The second is on a calibrated monitor that provides a very nuanced rendering of B&W. There aren’t many of the latter. The Apple Cinema display I owned, for example, was good for B&W but not good enough. So far, the only digital monitors I’ve seen that render B&W really well are made by EIZO and NEC.”.
